What is TuneClub?

TuneClub is a phygital music-learning platform that blends online practice with real-world events, such as jam sessions, festivals, workshops, and more. Whether you’re a beginner following our “Couch to 5 Tunes” approach or an experienced player looking for new challenges, TuneClub provides tools, community, and motivation to help you play music with others.

Who is TuneClub for?

TuneClub is for both learners and creators:

  • Learners: Improve your skills via learning pathways, AI feedback, and jam sessions.
  • Creators: Host your own music experiences—festivals, workshops, or jam meetups—and earn revenue by sharing your expertise.

What makes TuneClub different?

  • Goal-Oriented Learning: Each experience culminates in a group performance or jam, so every lesson has a real purpose.
  • Phygital Approach: Prepare online (via learning pathways, AI tools, community feedback), then meet up offline to play with others.
  • Community & Collaboration: TuneClub fosters a global music community where learners and creators connect and support each other.

Subscription & Points

What do I get for the subscription fee?

You get:

  • Full Access to the Experience Marketplace: Browse and join a variety of experiences, from local jam sessions to global festivals.
  • Learning Tools: Advanced features like tempo/pitch adjustments, looping, interactive sheet music, and AI-driven pitch/timing feedback.
  • Community & Gamification: Participate in forum discussions, earn points, unlock badges, and chat with others in real time.
  • Practice Tracking & Challenges: Keep track of daily practice streaks, complete themed challenges, and measure progress.

Note: Some experiences (especially premium or advanced ones) may still require an additional fee.

How do points work on TuneClub?

TuneClub’s point system rewards active engagement and practice. You might earn points for:

  • Completing a practice session (e.g., +10 points per 10 minutes, up to a daily max).
  • Maintaining a practice streak (e.g., a 30-day streak might yield a bonus +50 points).
  • Finishing a learning pathway (e.g., +100 points for completing a multi-track module).
  • Taking part in challenges (e.g., +50 points if you record and share a new tune).
  • Contributing to the community (posting tips, giving feedback, etc.).

Points can unlock small perks (like merch or event discounts) and reflect your progress. The logic is simple: the more you practice and contribute, the more points you collect. If, for instance, you practice 10 minutes daily and keep a streak for 30 days, you might amass a few hundred points. These can be redeemed for anything from an exclusive T-shirt to discounted festival tickets—depending on what’s on offer at the time.

What can I learn on TuneClub?

Anything from basic instrumental technique and songs to advanced improvisation, depending on the experience you join. You’ll find:

  • Couch to 5 Tunes for absolute beginners wanting to learn five core songs/tunes.
  • Advanced Workshops on ornamentation, style, or genre specifics (e.g., Celtic, jazz, bluegrass).
  • Jam Sessions that teach you the repertoire you’ll then perform with others.

How do the online and in-person elements fit together?

  • Online Prep: You use learning pathways, AI feedback, and community discussion to learn songs or techniques.
  • Offline (Phygital) Event: You meet physically to jam, workshop, or perform. This could be a festival, a local jam session, or a masterclass.

TuneClub ensures you arrive prepared, so the offline time is more about making real music together.

Do I have to perform in public?

Not necessarily. Performances can be as big or small as you like—some jam sessions happen at festivals or workshops; others are just casual get-togethers. The idea is to give you a goal (e.g., playing a tune with others) so practice has real purpose. If you prefer, you can keep it low-key or join fully online sessions only.

How do I create an experience on TuneClub?
We have an online portal that will walk you through the process of creating your experience.

  • Propose a Concept: Decide your event type (e.g., festival, online jam, workshop) and target skill level.
  • Set Up: Provide a short description, learning content or pathway, and determine your pricing model (free or paid).
  • Launch & Engage: Once approved, your experience is listed. Learners can sign up, attend your digital lessons, and eventually join your jam or festival. TuneClub’s tools help with scheduling, payments, and promotion.

What types of experiences can I host?

  • Festivals & Masterclasses: Multi-day events or advanced, specialised sessions.
  • Jam Sessions: Regular local gatherings or online jam rooms.
  • Workshops & Tours: Topic-focused lessons or traveling music retreats.
  • Concerts: Prepped online, culminating in a live performance for an audience.

How does TuneClub support me as a creator?

  • Platform & Marketing: TuneClub promotes your event to its subscriber base, handles ticketing, and hosts your digital materials.
  • AI & Learning Paths: Offer advanced practice tools so your learners arrive well-prepared.
  • Monetisation & Revenue: Depending on your funding approach (see next section), TuneClub helps you earn from ticket sales, subscription revenue shares, or co-funded arrangements.

What kind of digital content do I need, and what costs might I incur?

TuneClub’s Philosophy on Content Creation

At TuneClub, we’re open to any production style—low-budget home-filmed videos or high-production studio sessions. If you’re creating a learning path (digital tutorials and practice materials) for your experience, you can simply record yourself (or your tutors) on a phone or go all-in with professional videography and direction. We don’t mind whether it’s an Android phone at your kitchen table or a multi-camera studio shoot; we care that you design a compelling learning experience that ultimately culminates in a showcase, jam session, or performance (either online or in-person). A modest, grassroots production can be just as impactful if it resonates with learners and helps them play full songs or tunes by the end.

Typical Expenses & Funding Overview

Below are some common costs you might face for digital content and other elements of your TuneClub experience, plus how TuneClub may or may not help cover those:

Videography & Editing

  • Budget: A simple phone or webcam setup might cost $0–$100 for accessories (tripod, mic). Professional editing or direction can rise to $500–$2,000+.
  • TuneClub Support: Typically, you’d cover digital production yourself. However, in some co-funded or TuneClub-funded scenarios, we might partially or fully cover bigger projects that advance the platform’s reach.

Audio Recording

  • Budget: You could capture your tunes with a basic USB microphone ($50–$200) or hire a studio (which might be $500 per day).
  • TuneClub Support: In a TuneClub-funded event (e.g., a marquee festival masterclass), advanced audio recording may be included if it benefits the entire learner community.

Venue / Set Design for Filming

  • Budget: Free if filming at home, or you could rent a small space for $50–$200. A professional set or large hall can run hundreds more.
  • TuneClub Support: Possibly covered in co-funded or fully funded experiences if it’s vital to the overall success (e.g., filming a big workshop series to be used across the platform).

Marketing & Promotion

  • Budget: Online ads, social boosts, and design costs vary from $50 up to $500+ if you want widespread reach.
  • TuneClub Support: We include marketing in the platform listing and community announcements. Further paid campaigns can be co-funded or at your expense, depending on the arrangement.

Additional Experience Costs

  • If you’re running an in-person jam or festival, factor in venue, staff, travel, etc. (see the separate “Expenses FAQ” for more).
  • If purely online, your main costs revolve around content creation and platform fees.

Funding Models

  • Creator-Funded: You handle production costs; you keep a higher revenue share (e.g., 80/20).
  • Co-Funded: We share some production expenses, recoup them first from ticket sales, then revert to normal splits.
  • TuneClub-Funded: If we see your high-production concept as strategically valuable, TuneClub covers filming, editing, venue, etc., recoups costs, and splits profit accordingly.

Key Takeaway

Whether you DIY with a phone or hire a full production crew, the heart of a great TuneClub experience is connecting learners to a culminating performance. A well-filmed homemade demo can be just as popular as a glossy studio version—what matters most is that learners find it engaging and walk away playing full tunes with renewed confidence.

If you have further questions about budgeting or filming approaches, contact TuneClub—our team can guide you on potential co-funding, cost recoup arrangements, or best practices to make your content shine without breaking the bank.

Monetisation & Commercials

How does TuneClub make money?

  1. Subscription & App Fees: Learners pay monthly subscription fee for advanced learning tools, the community, and the experience marketplace.

  2. Platform Fees on Paid Experiences: TuneClub retains a portion of revenue from paid ticket sales or workshop fees to cover operations (payment processing, overhead).

  3. Merchandise & Additional Offerings: Branded merch or premium resources.

How do creators make money?

Paid Experiences

  • 75/25 split (Creator/TuneClub) for typical paid events (e.g., workshops, jam sessions).
  • A small platform fee (~5%) might be itemised separately to cover direct transaction costs or folded into the 25% if you prefer a single figure.

Subscription Revenue Sharing

  • For free experiences driving significant engagement, 10–20% of monthly subscription revenue is set aside and shared among creators based on user involvement, completion rates, and retention.

Funded or Co-Funded Models

  • Creator-Funded: You cover costs; you keep 80%, with 20% to TuneClub, from the first ticket sold.
  • Co-Funded: Both parties recoup costs in proportion. After cost recovery, revert to normal splits.
  • TuneClub-Funded: TuneClub covers all upfront expenses, recoups them first, then splits profit with you (often 60% to creator, 40% to TuneClub, but negotiable).

Examples of how creators make money

Example 1: Creator-Funded Festival

  • You pay $3,000 for venue & marketing.
  • You sell $5,000 in tickets.
  • 80/20 (creator/TuneClub) from the first dollar. Creator = $4,000; TuneClub = $1,000. You net $1,000 profit after recouping costs.

Example 2: Co-Funded Jam Session

  • You invest $100, TuneClub invests $300.
  • 40 attendees at $15 each = $600 total.
  • $400 is returned proportionally ($100 to you, $300 to TuneClub). Remaining $200 splits 75/25 ( $150 to you, $50 to TuneClub). Net: You $250, TuneClub $350 total.

Example 3: TuneClub-Funded Masterclass

  • TuneClub invests $2,000 in production.
  • Sales = $3,000. First $2,000 returns to TuneClub, leaving $1,000 profit.
  • That $1,000 might split 60/40, you get $600, TuneClub $400.

Example 4: Free Intro Workshop

  • If your free session massively boosts engagement, you’ll share in 10–20% of subscription revenue for that month. Suppose $100,000 in subscription revenue, and your session represents 10% of the free engagement. You earn $1,000.

Growth Stages & Outlook

TuneClub is evolving in four stages:

Stage 1: Early Testing

  • Piloting events like the Sugarloaf Sessions to validate the phygital model.

Stage 2: Expanded Experiences

  • Adding advanced sub-experiences (masterclasses, specialised jam sessions), introducing new music genres.

Stage 3: Festival & Partner Expansion

  • Partnering with external festivals to embed TuneClub’s online prep system. Creators can tap bigger audiences.

Stage 4: Open Marketplace

  • Anyone can self-onboard and host experiences in any genre, from anywhere. This truly global approach unlocks brand sponsorships, deeper subscription options, and more.

Why It Matters: Each stage offers more robust tools, bigger audiences, and new revenue possibilities for creators. By the time we reach Stage 4, TuneClub aims to be the go-to platform for music experiences worldwide.
